European -SSSI Conference 2015 Salford (Manchester), UK
http://www.salford.ac.uk/esssi2015 The sixth conference of the European Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction (EU-SSSI), “Working the Interactionist Tradition: Contributions, Legacies and Prospects”, will be held at Salford, Greater Manchester, UK between 29th-31st July 2015. Building on previous successful EU-SSSI conferences, most recently at Aalborg (2014) and Uppsala (2013), the meeting will provide a truly interdisciplinary forum for those using ethnographic and qualitative approaches to understand the social and cultural realities of contemporary societies.
Our conference theme draws upon interactionism’s distinguished record and continuing vigour as a way of investigating the diversity, richness and complexity of contemporary social life.
We welcome paper submissions from those working in any theoretical, methodological or substantive areas that work with, draw on, or challenge interactionist concepts, theories, methods, exemplars and figures or that apply and extend the perspective’s intellectual horizons. We encourage participation from researchers, scholars and students seeking to develop interactionist analyses of contemporary social and cultural domains, to understand interactionism’s intellectual history, and to assay the prospects for development of the perspective’s orienting principles.
We would like to encourage submissions from those working with interactionist approaches in established areas such as communication conduct, crime and deviance, education, embodiment, emotion, health and illness, identity, organizations and work, and urban life – and from those working in newer areas, such as digital cultures or with creative or innovative methods and techniques. We are particularly keen to attract those who do not, customarily, regard themselves as interactionists in its traditional sense.
Contributions from early-career and experienced researchers across a range of disciplines and substantive specialisms are welcomed. We hope to create a setting for intellectual exchange and constructive debate that will underline the accomplishments of interactionist perspectives and understandings in North American and European contexts. In particular, it offers an opportunity for new and established researchers to meet to discuss their ideas and findings in structured and informal settings.
